Sarah Palin : The Puppet VP

Just like Gepetto who crafted Pinocchio, the Republican Party created their own puppet when they nominated Sarah Palin as the vice presidential candidate along with John McCain. She was not selected because she could fill in the shoes of the President and she was not selected because of years of leadership and sound judgment but she was selected for a few reasons. Those reasons are to solidify John McCain’s base with voters, to win over women’s votes which has become more important, to win over conservative voters, and take as many Hilary Clinton supporters as possible.

Thus the brilliant Republican plan was set in motion and the puppet vice presidential candidate was created. Now as a puppet, the ones who pull the strings are the creators which are the Republican Party and they have showed this by shielding Palin from any media scrutiny and limiting any media outlets by her. Any past mistakes must be controlled and mask by the Republican Party and any speeches or press events must be controlled to make the puppet appear as a real vice presidential candidate. This means only doing town hall meetings with McCain who could take over when she struggled over a question, doing an interview with Sean Hannity who is already a blind supporter of the party and whose interview would be a breeze, changing the vice presidential debate to make it more in Palin’s favor, and of course meeting world figures while limiting media questions. All these steps were made to make the puppet appear like a real vice presidential candidate who was ready to step in at any time.

The sad fact about the master crafters of the Republican Party is that the plan has worked so well and the puppet has fooled so many people. The puppet’s past has been covered as much as possible, news outlets have been blamed for being too hard on the Palin, and she has not said anything of her own views on the important issues. Of course this is the designer’s goal to make the puppet appear without any flaws because if the puppet did move without the strings, Palin could really show her true self which would allow voters to decide on the actual issues. The scariest future that many Americans fear is a puppet that was part of the “Road to Nowhere” and “Troopergate” might actually become a real President one day. What this also means for the world is a leader who does not have good environmental policies, someone who fought against adding the polar bears to the threatened species list in order to build more pipes, and someone who is all about "Drill Baby Drill".
